Comments about 1/2 in. Hammer Drill:

If a person could have only one electric drill this would be a good choice, it does it all well. Hammer and non hammer functions work well, but switch on top of drill is a little stiff to slide. Variable speed but the trigger is a little sensitive and speeds up the drill a little abruptly untill you get used to it. Has forward and reverse and is easy to shift. The drill is quite heavy, but that is a good sign of using adequate materials in the motor to produce lots of power and not generate heat which makes for better motor life. Below about 40 degrees F. the long power cord gets quite stiff. Overall not a perfect drill but a very good drill for the money. I like mine a lot and consider the few negatives to be minor. I bought the drill specifically for masonry work because I did not have a hammer drill. I don't do a lot of masonry work so I wanted a hammer drill as cheap as possible and still work. This drill exceeds my expectations and I find myself choosing to use it for just about everything becase it can do it all. I don't have to lug 2 or 3 drills with me for different purposes.

Comments about 1/2 in. Hammer Drill:

I bought this Skill hammer drill because I had some concrete drilling to do. I bought the least expensive hammer drill I could find because I don't do much concrete work. I was surprized that the drill had such features as variable speed, reverse, hammer and plain drilling ability, high amperage motor, depth rod and keyed chuck. I could not have bought a drill with better multi-purpose features than this. Now that I have used the drill in concrete and wood, I can say that the drill worked perfectly. Only time will tell how long a life it will have. The drill is heavier than a non-hammer drill as expected. I consider the weight a definate plus. After all they cannot build a high power electric motor without putting some material in it.

A great drill at a great price. It doesn't get used everyday but when I go for it I know it'll start when I squeeze the trigger....unlike another brand I recently had.
