Q:whats the difference between an orbital reciprocating saw and a standard reciprocating saw?
A:the orbital model lifts the blade on the return stroke -- cuts wood faster but may have a little "bouce' when cutting hard metals
A:Orbital saws rock the blade up and down slightly as they move back and forth. It reduces surface contact between the blade and the thing being sawed at any one time. It basically lets you cut faster through tougher stuff with a slightly rougher cut. Like when you change the angle (within your cut) while cutting to keep the saw from bogging down with a non orbital saw only automatic.
A:An orbital saw lifts the blade off the work on the return stroke, rather than just raking the teeth back over the cutting material in a straight line. This is a much more aggressive cutting action than a straight back and forth, and makes cutting easier. However, this is usually just used for wood and soft materials, since using it on a hard (metal) object could cause the saw to bounce while cutting.
