Comments about GP6500E GP Series 6,500 Watt Portable Generator with 20 ft. Convenience Cord:
I bought this generator to use as a backup for any power outages in the winter. We have an OWF (outside wood furnace) and my greatest fear is having a power outage over eight hours in the dead of winter and having the underground water lines freeze and then the lines coming into the basement freeze and then burst...and eventually 230 gallons of water will flow throughout my lower level. Next year I will buy a Generac "stand-by" permanant unit, thus not having to be present to power it up.
There are many things I like about this machine, and the "main" reason is name recognition. I did a thorough job in researching EVERY brand available to the typical home owner. While the engines on ALL the generators I had looked at, including this one made by Generac, are made in China, Generac stands behind their products, that and the fact that their company is in Wisconsin. They have the BEST warranty on the market for the homeowner.
Other reasons for selecting this unit is the mobility. Anyone who buys these heavy units and does NOT purchase the wheel options is nutz. Fortunately the wheels on this unit are standard fare. Don't let anyone kid you, these machines are NOT light by any means. I looked at a competitor's machine long and hard and I read the reviews and most folks had stated that axles were weak along with tires being junk. NOT on this Generac...the axles and tires are stout. This complete machine is well thought out, very substantial and well built.
Another option, besides a wheel package I highly recommend is "electric start." As one author wrote in his review and I concure, who wants to be outside in frigid temps pulling on a rope to start one of these units up? Surely not I. Although I have yet to use this unit other than doing a test run, all I have to do is follow the easy steps for starting the machine, flip a switch and hit the start button.
This unit I purchased is "reconditioned". Often I frown upon buying anything "someone else has had" because of under lying issues. Well believe me, when I look at "brand new" machines in the store and think back of mine..there is NO difference. The warranty is but one year for residential use and this is no sweat to me. If there was anything wrong with this machine before I got it, I would never be able to tell. This is the way to go, if reconditioned units are available..you will save a load of money, which anymore these days is important to many folks.
What things are NOT great about this Generac generator? I only have one complaint...the engine is quite noisy, but then it is just a "portable" generator. Don't plan on using this if you live in a condo or duplex or if you have neighbors close by. The only time the noise will bother me though is when I am outside. I could not bring myself to buying a "competitor's" generator because theirs is very quiet, but for that silence you pay a hefty price.
I highly recommend using CPO as your main source of buying. This is the second product that I have purchased through them and their service IS top notch. Very good communication and rather immediate delivery of item/s purchased. Do what I do, "before" making "any kind of purchase", be it small or large... do your research and look around for the "best" price. Free shipping and zero tax is a huge winner in my book.
