Plenty of power but edge guide is very flimsy and will bend easily. If u take your time and dont force it along it works ok. I got to aggressive on a neglected area of sidewalk and bent the guide. I was able to fix it but it is now even weaker than before but if you take it easy it will work fine.

Great edger. Works really well. Did not even know it was a refurbished product. Looked and functioned like brand new at mor than half the regular price.

The B&D Electric Edger is a reconditioned item that came looking like BRAND NEW. This electric edger is extreamly powerful and has never bogged down during useage. I did find it a bit difficult to keep the guide between the sidewalk and lawn as it does have a tendency to wander and it takes a good steady two hands to keep it going straight. The blade I feel will wear out prematurely because it is made a softer steel but other than those two minor issiues it did a great job in making the edge of the lawn look great. I am going to try it next to treanch out a line so I can install 100 feet of plastic lawn edging.

I have used the edger only once, so keep that in mind. I edged along both sides of a concrete driveway, both sides of a concrete sidewalk, and along the front curb. The edger made doing all of that very easy and frustration free. I have used an edger attachment to my gas trimmer, but when the yard was the less little bit wet the trimmer constantly bogged down. That was very annoying. I also used the actual string trimmer to edge and although the trimmer does a good job, I did not. I could not keep a straight line to save my life. I routinely trimmed out chunks of grass inches from the edge. Also, being an old fat guy, my back ached from stooping over with the trimmer. Those are the reasons I bought this edger. Granted the blade was brand new, but the edger cut quickly on the first pass. It is so light weight and given the placement of the wheels, that balancing the edger on the front curb was no problem. After one use of the edger I wished I had bought it a long time ago and saved myself some cussing and about twenty dollars in string I ate up trying to edge. With the long handle, light weight, and ease of use, my back was a non-issue. Assembly was easy. The electrical cord was already run through the handle and the handle was folded up in the box. All you have to do is unfold the handle, slip the pieces together, insert screws, and hand tighten; assembly is then finished.

I want to cut my grass at least an inch away from the hard surface. Will this product allow me to adjust the blade close enough onto the grass area so that there is a 1" gap between the edge of the grass and the hard surface?

No, this edger makes a vertical cut into the lawn, not a horizontal cut.
